Grant P. McAllister, Jr. - Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Dobro, Lap Steel, Bass, Synthesizer
Grunky Funk Music started in Arizona around 1998 after I left Catherine's Clock. It became the label name for my original music. The band has more than a hundred songs under the Grunky Funk Music label, with one full (satirical) album that is widely available online at several sites such as CDbaby and iTunes. The band is in the process of finishing two other albums, which were scheduled to appear at CDbaby at the beginning of September 2008, but unforeseen circumstances have hampered this.
Grunky Funk is primarily a Blues and Funk band. However, ska, punk, alternative and even country are styles the band enjoys playing. The three musicians who have helped shape my own style more than any other artists are Jonny Marr, Junior Brown and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Other major, but diverse, influences are The Jam, Weather Report, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, and The Cure. Although I don't typically buy country music, I love country guitarists like Junior Brown and Vince Gill, and I love to play it. There's nothing better than a snappy tele solo.
All "Grunky Funk" productions are a solo, two man, or three man effort.
All productions are written and recorded on Macintosh computers.
The sequencing software is FreeStyle and the recording software is Deck 3.5.
I use a M-Audio firewire interface.
For drums, and often synths, we utilize a Yamaha M80 and an Alesis drum machine.
All and any other instruments are "live".
